The Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics are an opportunity to spend two weeks in Italy learning and improving your performance and musical skills with Berklee faculty. With 12 days of intense classes and performances, this program provides aspiring musicians with hands-on educational experiences that can foster musical growth and development. All classes and ensembles are taught in the world-famous Berklee tradition, with its emphasis on the use of jazz and contemporary music as the focal point for musical understanding. Performance classrooms are equipped with rhythm section instruments; large lectures are supported by audio, visual, and digital presentations; a dedicated outdoor stage features daily concerts and jam sessions; and practice rooms, support staff, and administrators meet students' individual needs. Additionally, all students will receive free passes to the main stage at the Umbria Jazz Festival concerts, which are ongoing throughout the program. All in all, the Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics combined with the 10-day Umbria Jazz Festival afford a unique opportunity to learn by day and to listen by night—a rare educational and entertainment experience. Berklee at Umbria Jazz Clinics are designed for aspiring high school and college-aged musicians seeking to advance their musical knowledge and performance skills. Your summer in music starts here. Calling young performers, producers, and songwriters: create and connect with like-minded performers and producers at our fantastic summer schools. Each year at BIMM Institute, we run a range of summer schools for young people aged 11-17 looking to develop their skills, be creative, gain confidence or simply to just have fun. We run courses for all genres and tastes of music, so whether you love indie, pop, R&B, rock and metal or electronic music, there’s a summer school for you.
Each summer school runs over five days and consists of:

The Summer School week is one of the most popular of its kind and is usually fully booked quickly so do book early to secure your place. Tuition will be given by resident Performers College tutors and leading industry professionals and will give you an idea of life at a full-time college. Applicants should be aged 12 to 18 years at the date of the course and have experience in dance. The five day course will consist of classes in Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Tap, Singing and Acting. Performers College is unique in offering some evening activities during the course too, allowing students to further engage and build new friendships. A short demonstration of the week’s work will be presented for guests on the Friday afternoon at the College. (Please note two tickets per applicant only)

As we begin a new year, it's time to start thinking about what your students will do this summer. If you have a student interested in a career in journalism, writing, communications, or photography, encourage them to apply for the Boston University Summer Journalism Academy, hosted by Boston University College of Communication. For 14 years, our program has trained high schoolers critical skills in news reporting, interviewing, and writing. Our courses are taught by award-winning, working journalists, including Pulitzer Prize winners Lara Salahi and Rochelle Sharpe . Students interested in visual storytelling will learn from veteran photojournalist and The Boston Globe photographer Stephen Haines. Regardless of which program students choose, we challenge them to step outside their comfort zone and experience life as a working journalist. We offer three courses:
An on-campus residential program from June 24 to July 12, 2024 (for students with some journalism experience)
An on-campus photojournalism program from June 24 to July 12, 2024 (for students interested in visual storytelling)
A two-week learn-from-home program for high school students at all experience levels, starting June 17, July 1, and July 15.
Applications for the on-campus session are due on April 19. Applications for learn-at-home sessions starting June 17, July 1, and July 15 are due on May 10. Students who apply, are accepted, and fully registered by March 8 can save $400 off the full fee for the on-campus academy or $200 off the full fee of the learn-from-home academy. Summer Theatre School
The Summer High School Training Program is designed for rising 11th and 12th grade students who want a taste of intensive conservatory training that supersedes limitations and unlocks the riches inherent within uncharted creative territory. In the heart of Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, summer artists experience what it's like to be a student of The Theatre School by living on campus and studying in the five-story, all things theatre, state-of-the-art training facility. While this is a non-college credit program, students dive into the rigor of conservatory training and begin to prepare for the college audition and interview process. Drawing and Painting
The Drawing and Painting Summer Program at Les Tapies is designed for highly motivated high school students with a serious interest in the visual arts. Students explore a wide range of materials and techniques including observational drawing and painting exercises, painting en plein air (in the landscape) with both oil and acrylic, portraiture and self-portraiture, figure drawing from a life model and multiple types of printmaking. Students produce an incredible range of work during the program in a wide variety of media. Drawing and Painting majors work with Alan Mitchell, a highly experienced art educator.
Photography
Photography majors work primarily with traditional black and white film photography. Students gain experience with many types of cameras and they learn to use a range of technical processes with their images in the dark room. Students have a unique opportunity at Les Tapies to work with an experienced visiting photographer. Barry Iverson, visiting photographer for 2015, has photographed for TIME Magazine for over 25 years. Photography students are able to tap into a wealth of knowledge as they develop their own studio portfolios over the course of the program.

Pre-college students will benefit from Parsons Paris' excellent pedagogy in a city offering many cultural, historical, and touristic opportunities. Embark on a journey of self-discovery with friends! Professionally-trained instructors guide campers in art exploration, storytelling, dance, music, and theatre. Fine Arts Camp focuses on educating young girls and developing their communication, critical, and analytical thinking skills. At the end of the week, campers present their work in a Performing Arts Forum on the Saint Mary’s College stage. Participants will explore four fine arts disciplines: music, dance, theater, and studio art over five days. Daily classes in these disciplines are combined with a performance class where each camper specializes in a specific art form. At the end of the week, families are invited to attend a performance of what the campers have been creating. We are excited to offer both residential and day camp options this coming summer! Whether experienced or not, campers are welcome to enroll in Saint Mary’s Fine Arts Camps. The only requirement is the desire to learn and have fun!

Now in its 24th year, Writers Week at Sarah Lawrence College offers creative young people an immersive week-long experience with creative writing and the performance arts. Each day, participants attend writing and theatre workshops led by prose writers, poets, and performance artists. Included in the week are mini-workshops taught by program faculty, graduate students and guest artists. Rooted in the Sarah Lawrence College tradition of one-on-one interaction, the program offers students the opportunity to meet in small groups with workshop leaders. The program also includes faculty and student readings and a celebration of student work on the final day of the program. Classes are limited to 18 students, with two faculty members per workshop. In 2023, there will be two sessions of Writers Week: one on-campus session and one virtual session. Please note that the on-campus program is a day camp (not a residential program). The on-campus session will follow Sarah Lawrence College safety guidelines. Students must provide proof of vaccination for Covid-19 in order to participate (students with medical or religious exemptions should contact us at writinginstitute@sarahlawrence.edu).
We welcome students entering the 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grades the following fall. Students must be age 14 or older at the start of the program.

Filmmaker’s Week
This one week course is an in-depth study of the filmmaking process from script to screen. Students will gain a better understanding of critical craft elements necessary for the success of any project. The one week Introduction to Filmmaking Seminar is designed as a comprehensive overview of the process of making films from script through Screening. Through informative seminars students will have the opportunity to explore the technical side of the process by reviewing camera, sound and lighting equipment. This seminar offers a great opportunity to explore and discuss film school options and what program might be best suited for your specific goals as you consider a career in the industry. This is a great course for anyone looking to learn what goes on behind the camera. The seminar will be presented by filmmaking professionals in their respective fields. Following is a sample schedule of what participants can expect throughout the seminar. This is an opportunity to explore career options and, more importantly, to ask questions! We welcome students age 15 and older and are intended for both a pre-college and lifelong learning audience.
Filmaker’s Collective
As part of a long-running partnership, Sarah Lawrence College and the International Film Institute of New York (IFI) offer a unique opportunity to learn the art of filmmaking in an in-depth, supportive, and intimate program.
The program will focus on storytelling and developing the skill sets necessary to translate the written page onto the screen. This is the backbone of our program, in which every student produces and directs their own 4-6 minute finished project by the end of the course. Along the way, we will cover the technical aspects necessary to produce a final film—everything from operating cameras, to setting up lights and capturing sound. This program is designed to immerse the student from screenplay through post-production in an intensive course of study. Prepare to work evenings and weekends as necessary.
